Basic Information

Who Can Be A Member ?
Any student in good standing at SIUC can become a member of the club simply by paying the annual membership fee of $20 and maintaining an SIU Skydiver's ID card. While there are no other conditions to membership, at most drop zones you must be at least 18 years old before you are allowed to jump.

How many people are in the club ?
The number of club members is always growing! We usually have around 50 members per year!
How much does it cost ?
Yea, skydiving isn't cheap, but the club rates help out, see the rates below for more information.
Is there more than one way to make a skydive?
Absolutely. You can make either an Instructor Assisted Deployment Jump (IAD) or a Tandem jump. However only the IAD will count towards student progression.
So what is skydiving really like?

So, you want to jump out of airplanes for the first time?
You have two options, you can do a student jump or a tandem jump.
Tandems are 185 and will give you the full skydiving experience, however will not count towards getting your license.
Club dues are $20 for the year, which gets you a discount on all jumps made at SEMO. The first jump course is $155 (as a student/member) and every jump after that is $55 until you are off student status or get your license (which will be around 20-25 jumps), then the price drops to the standard rate of around $20. The first jump provides a 3 hour safety/procedures course, ground training, gear rental, and your first jump. Students are taught via IAD (instructor aided deployment). Basically the instructor has your pilot chute (deploys the main parachute), you climb out of the aircraft and onto the wing, hang off of the airplane by the strut, and let go. The instructor throws the pilot chute behind you and in about 2-5 seconds your main canopy fully deploys. From there you are pretty much on your own and guided down for a landing from instructors on the ground by radio. After this first jump, all student jumps are $55 (includes gear rental, etc). This puts you on the course to obtaining an A license, which will allow you to jump anywhere in the United States or at any dropzone that is a USPA member for around $20!
