Where is Southern Illinois
University?
Southern Illinois University is
located in Carbondale at the heart of scenic Southern Illinois.
Getting to Carbondale and Southern Illinois University is easy!

Once you're in Southern Illinois, finding Carbondale is a
snap. If you're coming from the North or South, you can take Interstate 57 to
Marion and take the exit to to put you headed west on Illinois Route 13.
Take IL 13 west to Carbondale. You can also take Illinois Route 51,
which goes right through Carbondale.
If you're coming from the East (such as from Harrisburg), simply take
Illinois Route 13 westward until you reach Carbondale.
If you're coming from Missourri, you have several options. Coming from
St. Louis, you can take Interstate 64 East to Interstate 57. Head
south, and follow directions as above. Coming from Cape Girardeau, you
can cross directly into East Cape Girardeau, and then head north on Illinois
Route 3. Once you hit Murphysboro, turn east onto Illinois Route 13,
and travel east into Carbondale.

Once in Carbondale, finding SIU is almost intuitive.
There will be many signs pointing out the University. The most common
ways are to turn south onto Illinois Route 51 (also known as Illinois
Avenue) and then turn right into either the Student Center or into the Arena
(see campus map for details on these buildings). The Southern Illinois
University campus is marked with our signature Pulliam Clock Tower on the
map above.
