PLSS/PSGA
451 - Diseases of Horticultural Crops - This course introduces both
undergraduate and graduate level students to the important pathogens of
vegetables, fruits, turfgrass, and other horticultural crops.
Research:
Soybean
Research - Research involves the biology of Heterodera glycines (soybean
cyst nematode) and Meloidogyne incognita and Meloidogyne hapla (root-knot
nematodes) and interactions with other soilborne pathogens, specifically
Fusarium solani f. sp. glycines, the causal agent of soybean sudden death
syndrome. Research also includes integrating management strategies such as
tillage, host and non-host rotation, and genetic control to reduce soybean
yield loss.
Horticulture
Research - Peaches, Grapes, and Vegetables - Research is determining
which nematodes are present in Illinois soils and their impact.
Methyl-Bromide
Replacements - Dr. Alan Walters and myself are involved with private
companies to evaluate new chemicals for nematode management.
