This is a composite course in applied entomology.  It is designed to provide:  i) fundamental knowledge about insect structure, function, ecology, and management, and ii) a survey of major insect pests of crop plants, encompassing their identification, life cycles, damage and losses, and management strategies

EXAM  SCHEDULE
Four 1-hour exams will be scheduled.  The last of these exams will occur during the week of Final Exams and will not be comprehensive.  The lowest grade of these 4 exams will be dropped. 

INSECT  COLLECTION
All students will develop an insect collection.  This collection will contain properly mounted and displayed insects in 50 different families.  These families will be included in, but not limited to, the following orders:  Orthoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Homoptera, Hemiptera, and Hymenoptera.
 

GRADE DETERMINATION
Lecture exams:                                      3              x              100          points each = 300 points (drop lowest grade)
Insect collection:                                                                                                         100 points
