SIUC offers summer programs for all ages. Below is information regarding the 2008 Summer Music Camps. 2008 Southern Illinois Summer Music Festival
GUITAR SEMINAR, June 2-6:
Beginning and advanced levels of study available. Technique and musicianship study through individual and class participation. Please call (536-8742) or email us (musicamp@siu.edu) with your street address for a brochure and application.
MUSIC THEATER, June 15-21:
A program for 13-18 year olds. Campers are given individual and group attention for improvement in singing, acting and dancing skills. Daily rehearsals with the experienced camp leaders include creative exercises concentrating on each student's performance strengths and working to better their shortcomings. They are encouraged to grow as a team while allowing each other their own time in the spotlight! The final performance includes a presentation of scenes and musical numbers learned. SENIOR HIGH BAND, June 15-21:
Concert band, jazz band, theory, technique classes. Lots of great music, concerts and friendships. (Residents – $375; Commuters – $200) Application available here.
JAZZ IMPROVISATION CAMP, June 15-21:
Open to all high school instrumentalists (rhythm section players and wind players) who wish to improve their jazz improvisation skills. Emphasis of the camp will be on improvisation and small group playing, with one hour of the day devoted to big band performance. The schedule includes combo rehearsals, jazz theory and improvisation, jazz history, individual instrument classes, big band, and faculty performances and demonstrations. JUNIOR HIGH BAND, June 22-27:
Band, master classes, theory, technique classes. Lots of great music, concerts and friendships. (Residents – $300; Commuters – $200) Application available here.
SOUTHERN ILLINOIS CHILDREN’S CHOIR CAMP, July 7-11, 12:30-4:30 p.m. in Altgeld Hall.
Three levels of choir experience will be offered. Activities during the week will include choral ensemble singing, movement, handbells, singing games, etc. and snack. The camp will culminate in a Friday 5:00 p.m. concert presented by the three choirs, after which a light supper will be served to campers and families. Level III Choir will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Southern Illinois Miners ballgame at Rent One Park in Marion on Saturday evening, July 12. All singers entering grades 1 through 10 are welcome. Membership in SICC is not required to participate. (Registration - $60; SICC T-shirt - $10)

YOUTH BAND, Week 1- July 7-11, Week 2- July 14-18:
Two exciting weeks of music instruction for students who have been playing for 1/2 to 2 years (grades 4-6)--band, technique classes, sectionals, listening experiences. (Morning camp only, no housing.) (1 week – $55; 2 weeks – $90) Application available here.
