Robert L. Weiss, Jr. is currently Professor of Music and Director of the School of Music at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. He Holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Music Education from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. in Education from SIUC. Dr. Weiss has taught in the public schools of Arroyo, Puerto Rico and Quincy, Illinois. In addition to his administrative duties, he currently teaches trombone at SIUC.
Dr. Weiss is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Illinois Music Educators Association, The College Music Society, International Trombone Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Delta Kappa. He has served as a member of the Trombone Pedagogy Committee and as chair of the Affiliate Chapter Committee of the ITA, President of the Great Lakes Chapter of the College Music Society, and Chair of the Research Committee for the IMEA.
Dr. Weiss has been active as a solo performer on the trombone and as a member of the SIUC Faculty Brass Trio. He has co-authored computer software in music fundamentals which is published by Electronic Courseware Systems, Inc. and is the author of MUSIC AND EXPRESSION, a music appreciation textbook published by Wm. C. Brown.
