Dr. Paul Transue is a very active collaborative pianist in demand as both a coach and accompanist. Currently the Principal Coach/Accompanist and Assistant Conductor for Toledo Opera, he previously held the position of Musical Director and Coach/Accompanist for the Opera Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music from 1997 to 2004--joining the CIM faculty from the Eastman School of Music where he received a D.M.A. in Accompanying and Chamber Music with a specialty field of Opera Coaching. He has worked professionally as a coach and accompanist with Seattle Opera, Cleveland Opera, Toledo Opera, The Ohio Light Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, Lyric Opera Cleveland, the Janiec Opera Company of the Brevard Music Center, and the Chautauqua Institute Vocal Program. He has recently been a Guest Artist/Coach at the A.J. Fletcher Opera Program of the North Carolina School for the Arts, and at the Meadows School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University, in Dallas. He recorded Three Sonatas by Friedrich Kuhlau for Centaur Records with flautist Keith Pettway.


In addition to his doctorate, Dr. Transue holds a Master’s Degree in Accompanying from The Florida State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance from James Madison University, and his teachers include Jean Barr, Russell Miller, John Greer, Carolyn Bridger, Timothy Hoekman, and Vicki Berneking. As a member of Trio Sortilège, he won the MTNA Collegiate Chamber Music Competition and was twice a semi-finalist at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
