Music Education

The Bachelor of Music in Music Education is a professional degree, requires the most credits of all our degree offerings, and includes Certification to teach music in the public schools for the State of Illinois. The degree also requires passing a ten minute juried performance on your primary instrument, called the Upper Divisional Exam, performed in front of the School of Music faculty, and usually taken at the end of the spring semester of your sophomore year. Passage of this exam permits you to continue in the degree program on schedule. Those failing are given the option of performing again the following semester, or selecting another area of specialization, such as Music Business, Open Studies.
