Music Theater

Our Bachelor of Arts in Music Theater combines fundamental singer-actor training with a liberal arts component. It has become the most popular undergraduate voice degree in the School of Music, and boasts several successful alumni. Although it is not a conservatory degree, two-thirds of the classes are devoted to developing skills in voice, musicianship, acting, movement, dance, and performance experience, while the remaining third are part of the University Core Curriculum. The degree is designed to prepare you for auditioning for summer stock and entry level professional performing opportunities, or graduate work in theater or music. Graduates are performing in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Performance Opportunities: Each spring the Department of Theater and the School of Music collaborate on a full scale musical, and in the fall a full scale opera (Production Photos) .  Musical theater and opera scenes are also regularly prepared for public performances. In the summer, McLeod Summer Playhouse, a professional summer stock theater in operation for 40 years, gives students their first professional experience working with actors, directors and choreographers from around the country.

Please audition for us! We prefer that you do it in person and visit us, but if that is not possible we will accept a DVD or VHS audition.
