As
of Fall 2007, MEDE will be forming a performing group. This
group
will train for and perform various styles of oriental dance (aka belly
dance) and folkloric dances of the Middle East and North Africa.
We are currently recruiting new members for the performing
group.
Criteria are as follows:
- Performing
group members
must regularly attend a Middle Eastern dance class (in addition to weekly
group rehearsals). Tedi and Sedonia teach classes throught
the
SIUC rec center. See the resources page for additional class
options.
- Previous dance experience (in any genre)
is helpful but not required.
- Weekly group
rehearsals are mandatory, and performers will be expected to put in
additional practice time on their own.
- Performing
group members must be dedicated and reliable.
- Performing
group members will be expected to adhere to performing
ethics.
- Performing
group members must pay club dues; additional expenses include purchase
of finger cymbals, dance veil, music, and costuming.
Costuming will be chosen by the artistic directors (Sedonia
and
Tedi).
- Performing group members will be expected to
participate in MEDE fundraising activities that are planned by the
membership.
