SIUC Identifiers

Use
SIUC Identifiers have been developed to offer individualism and flexibility for colleges, departments and units. These SIUC Identifiers can be used in place of the main SIUC logo on all forms of media with the exception of official letterhead for external correspondence (print and electronic form), business cards, business envelopes and classified advertising.
Placement
Place the SIUC Identifier on the front of all SIUC print materials. If placement on the front is not possible, the SIUC Identifier can be placed on the back cover; however, the front cover must be clearly and prominently marked with text that reads Southern Illinois University Carbondale. If the imprint area of your media is limiting and the quality of the SIUC logo will suffer, please spell out the full name of the University (no hyphens or dashes).
Color
The official logo color is Pantone Matching System (PMS) 209 (maroon) and black for all printed items. The Identifiers may also appear as all black and as all white (when placed on a solid or dark background).

Proportion/sizing
[Top]
When an SIUC Identifier is reduced or enlarged, it must be treated as one unit so that all elements are resized proportionately. The minimum size of the identifier is determined by the size of the graphic. The clock tower graphic must be at least 1/2 inch from the left to the right exterior sides of the window.
Fonts
Some suggested font families for use in University publications are: (Serif) Palatino, Adobe Garamond and (Sans Serif) Universe, Futura.
Unacceptable SIUC Identifier treatments

Altering
SIUC Identifiers should not be changed into italic, bold or created with alternative type faces. Do not attempt to recreate, separate, scan or alter the identifier in any way.
Distorting
Layouts/designs should leave space to incorporate the SIUC Identifier at the proper proportion. Identifiers should not be pulled, stretched, squeezed, condensed or otherwise altered to fit a particular space.
Appearances
SIUC Identifiers should not be encompassed in any shape, other design or embellished in any way. Identifiers must appear unobstructed to maintain visual clarity and identity and may not be rotated. Additional colors or blended colors, special effects and/or drop shadows should not be applied to the identifiers.
Screening
SIUC Identifiers should not be screened or lightened. There should be a high degree of contrast between the logo and its background.
Clear space
[Top]

To clearly present an SIUC Identifier without competition from other elements, it is important that enough space is given around the perimeter. Use clear space equal to 1/2 the height of the clock tower graphic. This method of measurement will ensure the proper clear space.
