Telecommunications and Networking

The Telecommunications and Networking program of study is designed to educate students in telecommunications, data communications, computer networks, network management, and related areas including business, legal, and social issues. It will prepare graduates to install, configure, troubleshoot, repair, and manage computer networks and telecommunications infrastructures in industry, health care, commerce, and other organizations. The core of the last two years of this specialized EST baccalaureate degree requires 18 credit hours, with an additional 9 hours Electronics Technology requirements and of electives that gives students the background in telecommunications and networking that is valued by every sector of today's economy, including industry leaders such as Lucent and Cisco.
Transfer students are welcome. Students who have completed a two year associate degree in electronics or a computer related field will find this curriculum to be a perfect compliment to their degree. Special accommodations to ensure a smooth transition are made for the transfer student through the Capstone option and special articulation agreements with many of the community colleges throughout Illinois.
Career Prerequisites-36 hours
Four-semester sequencing of electronics theory begins in the first fall semester. Students enrolled in laboratory courses are required to purchase electronic components for the purpose of constructing, analyzing, and evaluating electronic circuits. The total cost of theses components is estimated to be at least $200.
