Current Civil Service Vacancies
This is a description of the
civil service vacancies at Southern Illinois University at
Carbondale for the week of November 9, 2009
Applicants must apply
in person, provide all qualifying credentials: such
as official transcripts, certifications, licenses and DD 214,
and make appointments for testing for current vacancies no later
than 12:00 noon, Thursday,
November 12, 2009.
Office hours are: Monday through
Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
No appointment is necessary.
The interviewing hours for
employment counselors are:
Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
All Civil Service examinations
given under the State Universities Civil Service System shall be
open to all applicants who are citizens of or residents in the
State of Illinois, and who can qualify by experience and
training for the position for which application is made.

Note: The University will be closed Wednesday, November
11, 2009 in observance of Veteran’s Day.
Library Clerk
Salary: $1443.00 per month
Department: Library Affairs
Specialty Factor: Possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s
License.
Note: This position requires working Sunday through Thursday
11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. Any combination totaling 6 months
from the following categories:
(a) Work experience in
a library or equivalent setting or general clerical or customer
service experience
(b) College course
work in any field as measured by the following conversion table or
its proportional equivalent
● 30 semester hours equals six months
Amounts of education or experience less than those listed above
should be converted to decimal equivalents and added together when
computing combinations of the different types of preparation.

civil service classifications which are referred to as
continuous post. The listing of continuous post classifications
is available at Employment Services, 803 S. Elizabeth,
Carbondale. Vacancies in these classifications are not
advertised. Only those candidates already on the employment
register may be considered if there is a vacancy. Interested
applicants should review this list and apply for testing.
Persons are requested to bring copies of their college
transcripts and/or veteran's discharge papers (DD 214), if
applicable.
