Typical Program Itinerary

In the Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture Elderhostel, participants will increase their knowledge of the Spanish Language, and gain an appreciation for the culture through lectures, field trips, and interaction with the local culture. The following sample itinerary outlines the times and duration of Spanish classes, lectures, field trips, free time, and other program related events. Each Site Coordinator or Group Leader does add his or her own personal touch to each program. Special Holidays will be emphasised during the particular program.

First Week of Program

4:00 pm Paseo (walk) to points near Hotel Calesa Real

11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Paseo to Benito Juárez market; San Juan Church; chocolate factory, and Mercado de Artesanías
6:00 pm Lecture

11:30 am - 1:30 pm Paseo to the Santo Domingo church and the Museum of Cultures
6:00 pm Lecture
Thursday
Day 5
8:50 am Bus trip to La Granja (cochinilla farm); Teotitlán (weaving village); Juárez Mural.
Return around 2 pm

9:00 - 11:00 am Clases de español
11:30 am - 1:30 pm Paseo to remains of a colonial aqueduct and ARIPO (a government sponsored arts/crafts shop).

8:50 am Bus trip to Mitla, Las Canteras Park, Tlacochahuaya Church, and the Tule tree.
Return around 2 pm.
6:00 pm Lecture on Monte Albán, Mitla, and Zapotecan/Mixtecan cultures

Bus trip to Monte Albán and the Mirador. The sun is fierce -- take hats!
Return around 2 pm. Free afternoon and evening.

Paseo to the Museum of Contemporary Art & the Museum of Graphic Arts.

Paseo to the Palacio de Gobierno to see the murals of Diego Rivera's disciple, Arturo García Bustos.

Bus trip to Cuilapán (16th century monastery) and La Capilla for lunch.

Graduation ceremony in our hotel, followed by dinner and a folklore dance performance at the Hotel Camino Real

Breakfast for those not leaving on early flight. End of program. Buen Viaje!

Single Room Supplement to be paid to Boston Elderhostel at the time of registration.  Please refer to the Elderhostel website http://www.elderhostel.org/  for the current charge

Our office can arrange for you to arrive in Oaxaca early or stay afer the completion of the program.
