  GARRETT E. AND SUSAN J. PIERCE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND  

Size of Award

The size of the award depends on the value of the endowment at the time.


Background

Garrett E. Pierce earned both a B.A. in economics in 1966 and an M.S. in economics in 1970 from SIU. In 1990 the SIU College of Liberal Arts awarded Mr. Pierce their Alumni Achievement Award. The Pierces established the Garrett E. Pierce Scholarship Fund in 1992 for economics majors. An historical profile of the Pierces appears below.


Eligibility and Selection Criteria

In accordance with the wishes of the Pierces, preference shall be given to a student "majoring in economics with an interest in accounting or manufacturing who has a GPA of 3.0 (B) or higher and a student with a learning disability." Financial need will be considered.

Historical Profile

Mr. Pierce is Senior Vice President and CFO at Sensormatic Electronics Corporation, which provided electronic security at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He earned both a B.A. in economics in 1966 and an M.S. in economics in 1970 from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He has been active in community groups such as the United Way, professional groups such as the American Institute of CPA's and has served on Southern Illinois University Foundation Board of Directors' Audit and Long Range Planning Committees. In 1990, the College of Liberal Arts awarded Mr. Pierce their Alumni Achievement Award. The Pierces established the Garrett E. Pierce Scholarship Fund in 1992 for economics majors. Mr. Pierce and his wife Susan, also an alum of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, have two sons and make their home in Boca Raton, Florida.
