Works About Dewey

Reflections:
Having been hired at the Center under the auspices of the first NEH grant awarded in 1975, I can truly say that most of my professional career has involved Dewey.  My twelve years teaching English made the transition to editor a smooth one.  Having been a major contributor to the editing of the thirty-seven volumes of the Collected Works and the volumes of the Correspondence has been a very rewarding experience.  I was also fortunate enough to be able to compile a bibliography of Sidney Hook's writings as well as work on the volume of Dewey's poetry.  While it started as a side project, Works About Dewey has escalated to a position of prominence.  It is very satisfying to know that Dewey scholars around the world benefit from the years I have spent here at the Center for Dewey Studies.

Since I am "officially" retired and my hours at the Center are somewhat limited, my time is devoted entirely to maintaining and updating the Works About Dewey archives and bibliography.  A print edition was published in 1995, an electronic edition in 1996, and an electronic supplement of some 5,000 additional entries in 2006.  Interest in John Dewey continues to grow, and searching out material written about him is a continuous project.  The fact that all items in the bibliography have been verified and, in most cases, obtained, represents a huge accomplishment.
