150th Birthday Celebration

John Dewey's 70th, 80th, and 90th birthday celebrations, organized by his friends and colleagues in 1929, 1939 and 1949, received national and international attention. On the occasion of his 90th birthday the New York Times hailed Dewey as "America's Philosopher."

During 2009, a number of celebratory events will mark the 150th anniversary of John Dewey's birth on October 20, 1859. For information about these events, including conferences, lectures and discussions please see the "News" page. Also watch this site for current updates of events and noteworthy postings of correspondence and scholarship.
