The Civil Service Council represents civil service employees of Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The Council, as a recognized constituency, functions within the overall governance structure of the University and advises and consults with the Chancellor on a regular basis.


The Civil Service Council membership is composed of employees elected from the civil service staff on the Carbondale Campus. The current Council President is Mark Wetstein, Broadcasting Service (618-453-6104).

    This procedure covers status civil service employees (excluding Springfield School of Medicine) who are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

  • Faculty/Staff Ombudsman
    The Faculty/Staff Ombudsman deals specifically with faculty and staff problems. He acts as an advisor and dispute mediator and handles issues ranging from simple questions to the preparation of formal grievances. All communications are confidential.
  • University Club
    The Club provides an opportunity for faculty and staff to join one another for conversation and refreshments both on and off campus. All SIUC faculty, A/P staff, civil service, alumni, and retirees are eligible to join.
