Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) is planning to offer a Bachelor of Science degree program in Technical Resource Management in the Mt. Vernon area in partnership with Rend Lake College and Continental Tire of North America. Results of this interest survey will help us learn more about the potential student base and whether or not there is sufficient interest to support such a venture. Should there be enough interest in the program, the process for opening a program will begin. Classes will be held simultaneously at or video relayed to Rend Lake College, the Marketplace in Mt. Vernon and the Continental Tire factory training room.

The Program

The Technical Resource Management (TRM) degree includes a 36 semester-hour major, 41 semester-hour University Core Curriculum (UCC [general education]), and a 43 semester-hour approved career electives component for a total of 120 semester hours. The UCC can be satisfied by transfer credit from other institutions, and the 43 hours of career electives can be satisfied by acceptance of technical related training or related course work from military technical schools.

SIUC proposes to deliver the 36 semester-hour TRM major in the Mt. Vernon area, over a 16-month period of time. Each semester will include three, 3 semester-hour courses. Two of the courses will be taught one night a week via video conferencing and in-class instruction, 8 weeks each. The third class will be taught online and will span the length of the semester, or 16 weeks. Students who enroll full-time (9-semester hours) each of four consecutive semesters will be able to complete the 36 semester-hour major in 16 months.

SIUC’s tuition is $210.00 per semester-hour. All SIUC courses are eligible for tuition assistance and the Veterans Administration educational benefits. Students who wish to apply for PELL Grants or Student Loans may do so with the assistance of the TRM advisor.
