Mt SAC Students Completing Their Internships
Senior SIU student Derrick Alatorre completed an internship with the Los Angeles Police Department, Air Support Division. Derrick flew weekly with the division and observed the training with the SWAT teams as they practiced maneuvers while bracing themselves outside the helicopters. The SWAT teams can either take out a shooter, or they provide cover fire for air and ground units.

Tactical flight Officers Chris Green and Brent Jones piloted the helicopter while visiting Independent Study professor Irene Miller rode as an observer. Irene authorized the internship for Derrick Alatorre in spring 2007. |
