Researcher I (Biochemistry)

A one hundred percent (100%) time term position in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is available commencing August 15,2008.
Title of Position: Researcher I in
the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Description of Duties and Position:
Conventional and affinity chromatography to purify methyltransferases, demethylases, telomerase, and recombinant proteins.
Activity assays to study the enzymatic properties and regulation of telomerase and a methyltransferase. Electrophoretic mobility shift assays will be used to study protein-nucleic acid interactions. Southern blot hybridization will be used to measure telomere DNA length alterations. These techniques involve safe handling of radioactive isotopes.
Use recombinant DNA technology, such as PCR and site-directed mutagenesis, to perform gene replacements in yeast. Use western blots to study protein-protein interactions in vivo. Use chromatin immunoprecipitation to study protein-DNA interactions in vivo. Use real-time PCR to study gene expression in vivo.
Assist in writing, graphics production, and other aspects of research publications.
Maintenance of laboratory databases and
equipment. Supervise the research and lab
responsibilities of undergraduates.
Minimum Desirable Qualifications: Minimum requirements for Researcher I are
a BS or BA degree in life sciences or chemistry related area. Some research lab
experience is preferred, but not essential.
Appointment and Salary: Salary will be $ 2,146.00 per month at the
Researcher I level.
