Researcher I, II or III (Neuroendocrinology)
Department of Physiology
Two one hundred percent (100%) time term
positions beginning as soon as possible. Continued appointment is dependent on periodic
review of performance and extension of appointment is subject to availability of
grant funds.
Description of Duties and Position: To oversee active research
laboratory and/or assist in molecular neuroendocrinology studies on the control
of reproduction. Duties include: 1) General laboratory maintenance including
ordering supplies for the laboratory, maintaining laboratory equipment and
maintaining compliance records, 2) Supervising and assisting lower level
technicians and/or students, 3)Performing molecular biology techniques such as RT-PCR, RNA isolation, gel electrophoresis, DNA subcloning, plasmid preparation,
in situ hybridization, ribonuclease protection assay, promoter-reporter assay,
western blotting and immunocytochemistry, 4) Maintaining tissue culture
laboratory, which includes use of sterile techniques, preparation of media,
serum and solutions for culture of cells, care of cell
lines and plating and harvesting cells for experiments, 5) Animal handling and
keeping accurate records on mating rats, 6) Performing minor surgery as
ovariectomy, blood vessel, brain cannulation or intracardial perfusion, 7)
Performing histological techniques as brain sectioning and image analysis, 8)
Performing various assays including radioimmunoassays and HPLC, and 9) Assisting
other laboratory personnel with experiments.
Minimum Qualifications: For Researcher I position, previous
laboratory experience is desirable but not required. A background in science,
interest in biomedical research and willingness to learn is essential. For
Researcher II and Researcher III positions, laboratory experience is essential
and those with demonstrated experience in, molecular biology techniques, animal
handling and surgery, tissue culture and/or radioactive assays will be given
priority. Researcher I requires a BA/BS in physiology, biological sciences,
molecular biology or related field. Researcher II requires a MA/MS degree or
BA/BS with at least 2 years of laboratory experience in physiology, molecular
biology or related field. Researcher III requires a MA/MS degree and a minimum
of two years of relevant experience or a BA/BS degree with a minimum of six
years experience in physiology, molecular biology or related field and
supervisory experience in overseeing an active research laboratory.
Salary: Depends on level of experience. Researcher I minimum
starting salary is $2,145.83 per month. Researcher II minimum starting salary is
$2,317.50 per month. Researcher III minimum starting salary is $2,746.67 per
month.
