Visiting Assistant Professor (Digital Arts Production)

Position/Type:  Visiting Assistant Professor in Digital Arts Production; non-continuing Term

Date of Appointment:  August 16, 2008

Qualifications:  MFA or Ph.D. with expertise in new media and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in digital arts production. Candidate must be able to teach Video Art, Web Design, and MFA Studio Arts Critique. Candidate must be able to address questions of new media theory, aesthetics, craft, and technologies.  Teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels preferred. Preference will be given to applicants who can contribute to a curriculum that addresses questions of aesthetic, historical and ideological implications of digital media production, and who can contribute to a climate that values and uses diversity in all its forms to enliven and make more inclusive the Departmental mission classes include.

Duties:  Teach six digital arts production classes and other duties as assigned by the Chair during academic year 2008-2009.

The Department: The Department of Cinema and Photography offers courses in the history, theory, criticism, and production of cinema, photography, and related media. Our educational orientation embodies a holistic understanding of media based in the fine arts and humanities. We are committed to graduating critical, original, and socially responsible artists and scholars who, as global citizens, can imagine and produce alternatives in media theory and practice. The Department has 13 full-time faculty with approximately 350 undergraduate majors and participates in the Masters, MFA, and Doctoral programs housed at the College level.  Additional information can be found at <http://cp.siu.edu.>

The College:  The College of Mass Communication and Media Arts has three academic units, the Departments of Cinema & Photography and Radio-Television and the School of Journalism, as well as WSIU Public Broadcasting which houses the University's public radio and television stations. The College enrolls approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 150 graduate students.

The University:  Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a Carnegie Research University with an enrollment of over 21,000 students. Carbondale, a university-centered community of 25,000 residents, is located 100 miles southeast of St. Louis, MO, on the edge of the Shawnee National Forest, famous for its rugged hilly terrain and natural beauty.
