Visiting Assistant Professor (Glass) (Variable-Time)

Title of Position/Rank: Visiting Assistant Professor (Variable-time) in Glass/Glass Studio Technician. This is a one academic year term appointment.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications: MFA degree with college level teaching experience as Graduate Assistant or Teaching Assistant in glass area required. Candidate must be proficient with organizing and maintaining a glass studio to include hot glass, kiln, and cold glass working. Candidate must exhibit proficiency in teaching of a variety of kiln working glass techniques and concepts in college level. Skill, knowledge and experience in traditional and contemporary glass blowing are also required. The candidate must evidence a strong commitment to personal research. Preference may be given to candidates with teaching experience in another area such as computer graphics, digital media, 2D, 3D designs.

Duties: Responsibilities include teaching a kiln working glass course per semester along with involvement in maintaining, organizing, and monitoring of the glass studio facilities. Other responsibilities will include upkeep, scheduling and operation of SIUC's Mobile Glassblowing Studio. The faculty will be assisted with the Mobile Glassblowing Studio by students. Ongoing creative research and professional activities will be expected. Personal studio space, adequate personal blowing time will be provided. The preferred candidate will also have an opportunity to teach an additional course in the School's Foundation program for additional salary.
