Rehabilitation Counselor (Evaluation and Developmental Center)

Title of Position: Rehabilitation Counselor in the Evaluation and Developmental Center's Residential Services Program. The primary function of the position is to participate in most aspects of the EDC twenty bed, dormitory type residential services program. The Rehabilitation Counselor has responsibility for residential related services to a client caseload of 15 to 20 persons including the supervision of client participation in household management and in social and recreational activities.

Responsibilities of the Position:
 

  1. Insure the safety of young adults with disabilities who are residents in a dormitory setting.
  2. Monitor the behavior and interaction of residents and intervene as necessary to promote behaviors compatible with employment, social and community settings.
  3. Coordinate each resident's admission, transition, and termination from residential services. Evaluate progress towards independent living.
  4. Supervise and facilitate completion of residents' activities of daily living and their acquisition and application of skills related to employment and independent living.
  5. Recruit, interview, train, and supervise graduate assistants. Make recommendations for hiring graduate assistants.
  6. Orient and supervise interns, field work students, and practica students assigned to the residential services unit.
  7. Communicate effectively with residents, parents, and other service providers.
  8. Plan and implement the provision of social, recreation, and training activities for the residents.
  9. Share the responsibility of completing and maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly data collection, reports, schedules, and communications with the Chief Rehabilitation Counselor.
  10. Adhere to requirements of Illinois Dept. of Rehabilitation and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Maintain relevant documentation and case records.
  11. Complete other duties as assigned.


Requirements of Applicants: Minimum Requirements:  Master's Degree in Rehabilitation or a closely related field and two years of successful rehabilitation work experience in professional roles. Valid driver's license is required. Oral proficiency in the English language is required. Experience with behavior programming and residential services is preferred.

This is a security-sensitive position. Prior to an offer of employment, a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a criminal background check, will be required.

Appointment and Salary: This position is funded through grant funds received on a fiscal year basis. Funding for this position is expected to be ongoing but is contingent upon the availability of grant funds. The work schedule is evenings and weekends. Salary is negotiable with a range from $2,947 to $4,421 per month. This position is a nine and a half month position (08/01/08-05/15/09) but requires that the employee be available through 6/30/09, if funding is available.
