Description of Position:  Assistant/Associate Professor/Professor position in the area of educational administration.

Responsibilities: This is an Assistant/Associate Professor/Professor faculty position in the Department of Educational Administration and Higher Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Areas of responsibilities include teaching graduate-level courses in educational administration, conducting research in educational administration, publishing articles in nationally refereed journals, and obtaining external funding for research. The primary focus includes teaching graduate courses in superintendency and instructional leadership; advising students; pursuing a continuing line of research activities leading to scholarly publications in nationally refereed journals and external funding; establishing ties with K-12 school administrators in the region and state; providing service to constituencies of the Department, the College, and University; and assuming other departmental responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements of Candidates:

• This position requires an earned doctorate with a specialization in educational administration or related field.
   
• Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor who have completed all requirements, except the dissertation, will be considered. If official evidence of completion of the appointee's earned doctorate is not received by August 15, 2008, the position offered will be a nine-month, term appointment at the rank of Instructor and at a lower salary than that of an Assistant Professor.  Potential for the development of a record of research is required for the rank of Assistant Professor.
   
• Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor and Professor requires substantial evidence supporting excellence in teaching, research productivity with publications in nationally refereed journals, and professional service activities. The rank of Professor requires the applicant to have attained the rank of Associate Professor with tenure at a research University, demonstrably strong record of publications preferably with a record of external grants, and a record of chairing Ph.D. students' dissertations.
   
• It is preferred that applicants have: (a.) experience as a K-12 school administrator in the public sector; (b.) a record of obtaining external funding for research; and (c.) experience as a dissertation chair.

Appointment and Salary: This is a continuing appointment. Appointment is on a nine-month academic year basis. Contingent on available funding and demand for teaching assignments, an additional summer session appointment may be possible. Salary and rank is commensurate with experience and background. Progress in rank and salary will require demonstrated productivity in research, publication, teaching, and service.
