POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Assistant Professor (Fashion Design and Merchandising)
School of Architecture


The College of Applied Sciences and Arts (ASA) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor position within Fashion Design and Merchandising. This is a nine-month, continuing appointment that may lead to tenure. Appointment begins August 16, 2008, or until acceptable applicant is found.

Required Qualifications:  Terminal degree (such as Ph.D. or M.F.A.) by date of hire, with at least one degree in the Fashion Design and Merchandising discipline. ABD candidates will be considered but if all requirements are not completed by effective date of contract, a one-year appointment as Instructor at a lower rate of pay will be offered. Candidate should demonstrate evidence of research/scholarly activity.

Responsibilities:  Teach undergraduate courses in the following content areas: textiles, fashion careers, textile and apparel economics, fashion product analysis, and basic principles of clothing design. Course assignments may vary depending on need. Produce a coherent program of scholarly work.  Provide service to the school, college, university, and community. Participate in innovative teaching, curriculum development, and program connections. Mentor student activities and organizations. Establish positive working relationships with faculty, students, staff, and professionals. Actively participate in professional and academic organizations.
