Assistant Professor (Soil Management)

POSITION: Assistant Professor, Soil Management. This is a 9-month
tenure track position with opportunities for summer research support.
POSITION AVAILABLE: January 1, 2009
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: A PhD in Soil Science or related field
with expertise in soil management, soil conservation or turf soils by the date
of appointment. Ability to incorporate the principles of hydrologic
processes/soil-water relationships, soil productivity and erosion to water
quality issues into a research program and demonstrated excellence in
communication and teaching skills are required. Preference will be given
to candidates who have demonstrated research grant support and publications in
peer reviewed journals.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will develop a nationally
recognized, extramurally funded research program in soil-water
conservation/management with the goal apply hydrologic practices to
environmental-water quality issues associated with the agronomic and green
industries. S/he will collaborate with state/federal agencies and commodity
groups to address contemporary environmental issues related to soil-water
management. The candidate will teach courses that will include soil-water
conservation, soil physics, and applied courses in turf/landscape irrigation
and/or other courses based on departmental needs. In addition, the candidate
will be expected to advise undergraduate and graduate students, and participate
in student club/activities.
SALARY: Salary is commensurate with professional experience. A
benefit package includes sponsored retirement programs (state or self managed)
and health (medical, dental, and vision) programs.
