friendsThe ESL program offered through Adult Education at EDC is designed to be a student-centered environment with lessons for classes supported through student suggestions.

The classes are available to adults who wish to improve their English literacy skills. This includes but is not limited to: Reading, Speaking, Writing, and Listening. Class  sizes are small and highly individualized.

Objectives / Services Provided:

  • Improve conversation skills,
  • Improve Reading and Writing Skills,
  • Expression of thoughts, ideas, concerns, and feelings in English,
  • Sharing of other cultures and cultural differences,
  • In-class activities to include group work and brainstorming,
  • Know the basic aspects of English grammar,
  • Speak to native English speakers and be understood, and
  • Knowledge of the American Culture and non-standard English.

Classes are offered at three locations:

  • Evaluation and Developmental Center - SIUC
    • Monday thru Thursday 9 am - 12 pm
  • Evergreen Terrace
    • Monday thru Thursday 9 am - 12 pm
  • Baptist Ministries Center

    • Monday, Wednesday & Thursday 1 pm - 3pm
