New Web Server Information
New Connection Information:
FTP Host name: www.siuc.edu (note: you need to have the "c")
Username: FTP Login
Password: The password you provided on your Memo of Understanding
Web site/Host Directory: /httpdocs/ (**note: Previously "public_html" - not needed for Web Users)
For those who did not change your URL and kept the tilda (~), you no longer need a "Web site/Host Directory" (the “public_html” directory). Also your account type is a "web user" and certain things will not apply to you. These will be noted below.
Accessing Your Files from Off Campus
In order to access your website files from off campus you must be using the VPN client provided by the Information Technology department. You can download the VPN Clients and Profiles, along with instructions, at http://wireless.siu.edu/
If you have problems with the VPN Client please contact the IT Help Desk at 618-453-5155.
New URLs:
Approximately 95% of URL's have changed (now called "Domain Accounts") and a redirect from your old URL should be in place. Please check your old URL to verify that it is working and if it is not, please send us a service ticket.

Your Account ID:
Some ID's that were too long to use as FTP logins and had to be shortened. You can look up your FTP login by clicking here: siuc.edu/webservices/server/new_url.php
Custom Error Pages:
Each domain account has the option to customize an error page in case users mis-type the address inside thier domain. Currently generic error pages exist with the Web Designate's or Faculty Leader's email address. These can be changed by accessing the folder called "error_docs" which is at the same level as the "httpdocs". The two files to be updated are: "internal_server_error.html" and 'not_found.html". If you have a template for your website, you can apply it to these two pages. (Does not apply to Web Users)
Traffic Reports:
Each domain has access to their own stats. The address for Traffic Reports "accountID.siuc.edu/plesk-stat/webstat/". For example: news.siuc.edu/plesk-stat/webstat/". Your user name and password for that is the same as above. (Traffic reports are not available for Web Users.)
New Folders:
The image above shows the default file structure of your httpdocs folder (your root folder for your website). DO NOT DELETE THE FILE FOLDERS OUTLINED IN RED.
css: default folder created to contain .css files. You can delete this folder if it does not relate to your file structure.
img: default folder created to contain image files. You can delete this folder if it does not relate to your file structure.
plesk-stat: DO NOT DELETE THIS FOLDER. If you delete this folder you will no longer be able to receive website statistics.
test: This folder is for server side scripting testing purposes only. If you do not plan to use these technologies this folder can be deleted.
Marronheader.jpg: The SIUC header. This can be deleted if your website does not use it.
Thumbs.db: Ignore this file. This file can be deleted.
favicon.ico: This is the small icon that identifies your site as an SIUC site. DO NOT DELETE THIS FILE.
index.html or index.htm: This is your home page.

Misc Notes:
Reminder: Make sure you are saving and compressing your images for web viewing and there should be NO SPACES in file names and directory/folder names.
