Students today are quite different than they were in 1968,
toting gear that didn’t exist back then and looking
for new amenities and conveniences. The first new Housing
construction on the campus in 36 years will respond to
what students say they want in their living spaces. The
complex, to be built at the northwest corner of Wall Street
and Grand Avenue, is part of University Housing’s
master plan, which outlines a variety of projects
that will add 1,765 beds. Among the proposed projects:
A 100-apartment complex housing 400 students on
the northern edge of campus; phasing out of Southern Hills
apartment complex and building additional facilities at the
Evergreen Terrace family complex; and creation of a new
housing area for sororities and fraternities. Each project
will require SIU Board of Trustees approval.
Opening of Wall & Grand Apartments is expected in Fall 2006.
