If ever there was a symbol of “burning the midnight
oil,” it has been Morris Library for nearly 50 years.
This vast storehouse of knowledge, the academic heart of
the University, is about to undergo a major facelift inside
and out that will make the library a more pleasant place
to visit and more efficient to use. The new layout will
reduce disorientation and confusion by reducing the principal
avenues of traffic and placing service points closer to
them.
Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich helped break ground for the largest capital project
in SIUC history on Sept. 3, 2004. Construction will start in February 2005,
with completion expected in August 2007.
