Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) has established a toll-free and a local telephone number that you can call to receive the latest SIUC Alert.

Those numbers are (866) 264-6420 and (618) 453-5375.

SIUC Alerts are messages about an emergency. The message may alert you to an emergency situation, ask you to take action, or both. Some weather warnings including flash flood, severe thunderstorm, winter storm, and tornado warnings will also be sent as an SIUC Alert. The messages are short (only 160 characters long). For more detailed information, you may need to go to another source of University emergency information.

In the event of an emergency, other options, including call-centers, media alerts, and other pre-recorded messages may be available using the same toll-free number.

Please note that this number is only to receive, not report, information during an emergency. Other numbers within the SIUC telephone system may also be used by emergency or authorized personnel to conduct telephone conferences, distribute information, or receive reports during an emergency.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) has established a system that will send the latest SIUC Alert to an SIUC employee's campus telephone voice mailbox.

Employees can retrieve the SIUC Alert voice mail message from their voice mailbox using the same options available to them with their current voice mail messaging system.

Please note that no communication distribution method, including telephone, is infallible. For that reason, SIUC uses redundant systems of emergency communication, including Internet, text-messaging, e-mail, radio, and person-to person, to distribute news and instructions during an emergency.
