Teaching Excellence
Our faculty are dedicated to excellence in teaching and to the
advancement of knowledge in a wide variety of disciplines and professions.
They are well known both nationally and internationally for their
varied research contributions and discoveries. For example, the
Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling ranks SIUC's
Rehabilitation Institute
number one.
Want to take classes but don't want to travel to campus?
Our campus has pioneered the use of distance education technology to offer courses electronically at sites
off the campus. We belong to two consortia, the
Southern Illinois Collegiate Common Market and the Southwestern
Illinois Higher Education Consortium, participating in a state-wide
initiative to make effective use of this distance learning technology.
The SIUC distance learning initiative is part of a broader effort
which includes a Regional
Center to enhance instruction through multimedia technology.
Also, the Telemedicine Network, recently developed, connects southern
Illinois medical and educational facilities with the SIU School
of Medicine in Springfield.
Our campus also offers classes through our military
programs at military bases throughout the country. Selected
faculty travel to the various military bases to present course material,
in addition to selected correspondence coursework. It is possible
to obtain a degree from SIUC without ever setting foot on campus.
In addition to these programs, we offer many study opportunities
through the Division of Continuing
Education. Both classes toward a degree from SIUC and classes
that are not part of a degree program are offered through Continuing
Education. |
