December 2, 2007
Dear Subscribers and Contributors,
Currently, we are completing the copyediting and proofreading for our upcoming 2008 Winter/Spring general issue, CRAB ORCHARD REVIEW, Volume 13, Number 1. All the editorial work for this issue is complete. The issue will feature the winners of our annual COR Literary Prizes (which we have lowered the entry fee for in the upcoming year) and the winner of the Charles Johnson Student Fiction Award, as well as new fiction, poetry, and literary nonfiction. The issue will go to the printer in late December or early January, and we hope to be mailing it out in February and early March.
SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED NOW for our upcoming special issue, "The In-Between Age ~ Writers on Adolescence." Carolyn, Jon, and I are reading through all the submissions for that issue right now, but we'll be taking a break for the holidays soon and won't be sending out acceptances until January 15, 2008; so if you submitted work for the issue and have not received a response yet don't worry, your work is still under consideration and you'll hear from us in the new year. All work submitted to CRAB ORCHARD REVIEW is read by one of our three main editors. Since this approach--the policy of no editorial interns or assistant editors rejecting work that has not been seen by either the editor-in-chief and poetry editor, the prose editor, or the managing editor--can be time-consuming, CRAB ORCHARD REVIEW welcomes simultaneous submissions for all of our issues. Please let us know if your work is accepted for publication elsewhere; we're always pleased when good work finds a home.
We'll be open for submissions to our 2009 Winter/Spring general issue, CRAB ORCHARD REVIEW, Volume 13, Number 1, from February through April 2008, but there's no need to hurry submissions to us. Though we'll log work in as we receive it in the mail, we won't begin to read any submissions for this issue until mid-March and we won't begin accepting work for the issue until May. So if you want to get the work off your desk and into our office, that's fine. As always, we welcome simultaneous submissions.
We will announce the topic of our 2009 special issue in March 2008--a little earlier than usual, but we have an idea for the issue that we would like to give writers a few extra months to think about. We'll begin accepting submissions for that issue postmarked in August through October 2008.
We greatly appreciate your interest in CRAB ORCHARD REVIEW and thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Allison Joseph, Editor and Poetry Editor
Carolyn Alessio, Prose Editor
