Specializations: Language Development/Language Disorders in Children with a focus on Multicultural Populations, and Assessment of Language in Children from Multicultural Populations.
 
Dr. Linda McCabe Smith is an Associate Professor and Clinical Supervisor in the Communication Disorders and Sciences Program at the Rehabilitation Institute, Southern Illinois University Carbondale since 1995. She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (1995). Dr. Smith is the recipient of the University Women's Professional Advancement
and Women's Studies award in 1997 and 1999 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She has worked as a speech language pathologist in the public schools of North Carolina. She is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association and the National Black Association of Speech Language and Hearing. Her primary research interests are cognitive styles and language acquisition of African American children. Dr. McCabe Smith has published two book chapters. Service Delivery to Culturally Diverse Populations and Key Terms and Concepts in Clinical Management of Communication Disorders in Culturally Diverse Children, a monograph, and other journal articles focusing on multicultural issues.
