Types of Courses
Listed below are the types of courses which may be taken to earn credit in the University Honors Program:
  • University Honors Courses ( UHON 351)

    Designed especially for University Honors Students, these small classes are taught by faculty of recognized excellence and substitute for Core Curriculum requirements. Restricted class cards are required for registration in these courses; the cards are limited in number, and available only at the Honors Program office.

  • Departmental Honors courses

    Designed for outstanding students in specific departments, these courses may be counted toward the Honors Program graduation option (for example: CLAS 497, FOR 492, HIST 495, PSYC 499).

  • Contract courses (click here for contract form)

    Students who wish to receive Honors credit for a non-Honors course may pursue doing so through an Honors contract with the course instructor.

  • Independent Study

    An independent project (readings, field study, creative projects), approved in advance by the Director.

  • Internships and Travel/Study Programs

    Honors credit is given for a faculty-directed paper based on some internships and travel/study programs, if approved by the Honors Director before the internship or travel.
