Assessment
As part of North Central Accreditation (2008-2009), degree granting units in CoLA (excluding units that solely offer a minor) will be required to provide information regarding assessment of student learning outcomes. Dr. Jim Allen jsallen@siu.edu is coordinating this effort.
There are 3 components of this process:
- Demonstration that an assessment plan is in place
- Demonstration that the plan is being used and that data are being collected, summarized, and reported.
- Demonstration that the assessment data are being used for feedback designed to improve student learning outcomes on an ongoing basis.
For units in CoLA, the following deadlines apply:
- November 15, 2006: Current assessment plan must be on file in Dr. Allen’s office. If your plan has been modified recently, please provide a summary of the updated plan by this date.
- February 15, 2007: An assessment report (that addresses the “5 questions” summarized in the handout below) must be on file in Dr. Allen’s office.
