Interim Associate Chancellor (Diversity)

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is conducting a system-wide internal search for an Interim Associate Chancellor (Diversity). This position reports to the SIUC Chancellor and is located on the Carbondale campus. This internal search is limited to current SIU employees. Nominations and applications are invited.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Consult with and advise SIUC Chancellor and other administrative officials on matters relating to the implementation of Federal and State legislation and executive mandates on Affirmative Action and Equal Employment/Educational Opportunities (AA/EEO).
• Consult with SIUC Chancellor and other administrative officials on developing policies, policy changes, practices, procedures and personnel that impact SIUC's efforts to improve and enhance opportunities for affected classes;
• Direct and coordinate development of the SIUC affirmative action plan;
• Advise officials and others on the interpretation of SIUC's policy relating to AA/EEO;
• Act as liaison officer between SIUC and compliance agents and agencies;
• Direct, coordinate and monitor the SIUC AA/EEO program to improve and increase the recruitment, selection, employment and retention of affected classes of employees and students;
• Serve as ex-officio on the University Affirmative Action Advisory Committee;
• Serve as fiscal/unit officer for the Associate Chancellor (Diversity) responsibility area and Affirmative Action Office;
• Direct and coordinate the Affirmative Action Office, Black Resource Center; Career Preparation Program; Center for Academic Success; Future Scholars Program; Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center; Head Start; Hispanic Resource Center, Office of Diversity and Equity; Student Support Services; University Women's Professional Advancement; and Upward Bound;
• Plan, direct and organize the services and serve as fiscal officer of selected AA/EEO student support programs;
• Work with external relations/alumni;
• Oversee the recruitment of underrepresented students;
• Coordinate fundraising for minority students;
• Handle student complaints; and
• Other duties as assigned by the Chancellor.

Qualifications: Candidates must be current employees of SIU, hold a doctorate degree or terminal degree appropriate to the discipline, and have relevant administrative experience in higher education.

*This is a security-sensitive position. Before any offer of employment is made, the University will conduct a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a criminal background check.

Effective Date of Appointment: Responsibilities to begin in October 2008. This appointment will be term and will run through June 30, 2009.
